Position: Chief Executive
Name: John Holmstrom
Bio: John has been the Chief Executive of WCHP since July 2013. This follows nearly 30 years working in the homelessness sector at Brighton Housing Trust where he was Assistant Chief Executive. John originally trained in theology with plans to be ordained. When he started working with homelessness his vocation shifted to meeting the housing and support needs of men and women who are socially excluded. Over the years he specialised in private rented sector access/leasing, legal/housing advice, campaigning, supported housing developments, IT and asset management. His vocation remains undiminished and his current role allows him to bring together his Christian roots with his commitment to social justice. A dream job!
John is a big believer in partnership working and collaboration. For example he is a founder member and current chair of the South East Homelessness Forum as well as Trustee of Voluntary Action Worthing.
Music is a big part of John’s life (which included spending 2 years in his early years in Brighton working as a professional musician in various blues oriented bands). He is a 4th Dan in Ki Aikido.
Position: Finance Manager
Name: Paul Seggery
Bio: Having grown up in Crawley I’ve studied in Wales, started my accountancy training in Liverpool and worked at Halifax Bank of Scotland in Chester. Although accountancy is fascinating, I’ve taken every opportunity to travel between jobs – usually by bike and to a variety of countries. More recently, I’ve spent 7 years working for HSBC in London within their Operations and Property division.
Position: PR & Fundraising Manager
Name: Sue Stevens
Bio: I was born in Newcastle but moved to Brighton at the age of 2 and a half. I had various jobs within the financial sector with banks and building societies. In 1991 I moved to Worthing with my then young family. I ended up working at London & Edinburgh which became Norwich Union up by the Grove Lodge roundabout. I was always involved with organising fundraising events, so when I was made redundant and saw a Community Fundraiser role with Macmillan Cancer Support, I jumped at the chance to switch careers.
The training provided by Macmillan was excellent and I really enjoyed my three years there. In 2006 I saw the job of Community Fundraiser with WCHP advertised in the local paper. I had volunteered at the hostel in Byron Road cooking evening meals as part of my church group so knew about the work the charity did.
I applied and was successful. A year later, the then PR & Fundraising Manager left and I was lucky enough to be promoted to the role. I love working for the charity, knowing that I am making a difference to local people in my hometown. I have so many memorable moments from my time here, every Sleepout is wonderful, being with the sky divers and abseilers when they have accomplished their amazing feat is fabulous and meeting clients several years later when they have settled back in to life is the best you can get!
Position: HR Manager
Name: Jenny Carrell
Bio: I joined Worthing Churches in November 2014. As the HR & Policy Manager, my role is to ensure the delivery of a high quality HR service enabling the best possible workforce providing excellent client centred services. As part of my role I will also manage the organisation’s policy review.
I am an experienced HR practitioner having worked a number years within the commercial sector for organisations such as EasyJet and most recently in the charitable sector for a non-maintained specialist school and college that cared for children and young adults with severe learning difficulties.
I have lived in Worthing my whole life and I am thoroughly enjoying working for a local charity and being able to give something back to my community.
Position: Recovery Project Manager
Name: Niall Read
Bio: I have lived in the Worthing area for the last 50 years and have seven children. My interests include cycling and kayaking(British Canoe Union Coach). I have worked in the homeless field for the past 15 years including previously working for CRI and Stonham Housing Association and previously in a role with WCHP set up Manor Road, Stepping Stones Project.
Working for WCHP gives me autonomy to develop and grow service in line with clients and local communities needs.
I originally moved into a social care field of work through interests developed in voluntary roles coaching young people.
I am currently the Registered Care Manager of the Recovery Project with a First Class Honours degree in Substance Misuse Management from Kent University.
Position: Supported Housing Services Manager
Name: Chris Dunn-Coleman
Bio: In the late nineties I was working as a self employed gardener and found myself in conversation with a Manager of a local support service, whose grass I was cutting, who wondered why I wasn’t working with vulnerable people. It was an area I was interested in but thought you’d have to be super qualified! She convinced me I had the skills necessary. After some reflection, enquiries, and an interview, I was employed as a Relief Worker for a housing association that provided a number of local services, and gained experience of working in mental health, physical and learning disability, youth homelessness and floating support. My development settled on youth homelessness and I worked in local supported housing as a Project Worker and subsequently as a Manager.
In 2006 I joined WCHP at the then new Recovery Project, moving in 2008 to manage St Clare’s Day Centre.
I’m proud to work in a service that sits in the heart of the local community, works in partnership to create diverse and dynamic opportunities for change, and sees men and women take those opportunities to enhance their life journey.
Position: Homelessness Services Manager
Name: April Baker
Bio: I joined WCHP in September 2016. As the Homelessness Services Manager, my role oversees WCHP Community Hubs and Homeless support in Worthing, Littlehampton and Horsham, as well as specialist support services such as Mental Health, Financial Inclusion and Client Involvement. .
I have worked a number years within the voluntary sector including managing young people outreach services, ex offender and complex need hostels in London. My last position was as a CQC registered Manager for Mental Health Services in Brighton.
I am passionate and committed to offering a community solution to homelessness through the delivery of services we offer at WCHP.

Position: Chair of Trustees
Name: Ian Mintram
Bio: Following my degree from Manchester, I worked for around 35 years in Human Resources. I initially worked for Kimberly Clark and then for 23 years with GlaxoSmithKline. It was GSK that brought me to the Worthing area in 1990 as I was head of HR for the Worthing factory although I then went on to work in a number of international HR roles. I was a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
I have recently semi-retired and, apart from rediscovering the joys of West Sussex, I am also keen to support WCHP given the excellent work the charity carries out.
I am married with two grown up daughters.
Position: Vice Chair
Name: Dr Linda Rockall
Bio: I am Sussex born and bred. I qualified in medicine at Guy’s Hospital in 1971 and took up a post at Worthing and Southlands Hospitals in 1979. In 1985 I became the first Medical director to the trust. I am a Christian worshipping as a Baptist serving in various roles in my church. I became a trustee for WCHP in 2010 and took on the chairmanship in 2013. I sing in a choir and love opera and my two grandchildren as well as the rest of my family!
Name: Richenda Kullar
Bio: I have lived in Worthing for 35 years and am married with two children and two grandchildren.
I qualified as a barrister and have been working as Legal Counsel for a number of household name companies, mainly in London.
In my spare time, apart from spending time with my family, I enjoy running and have completed a number of marathons and half marathons. I also enjoy the theatre, cooking and mountain walking.
Name: Fr Ben Eadon
Bio: Father Ben recently moved to Worthing as the parish priest of St Symphorian’s, Durrington. Before St Symphorian’s, Fr Ben was the curate of St Chad’s, Sunderland, during which time he was also involved with Night Stop North East as a volunteer. During his time training to be a priest, Fr Ben spent a couple of months on placement with Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen (currently the largest emergency feeding program in New York City).
Prior to becoming a priest, Fr Ben read music at the University of Durham, during which time he was also a choral scholar at Durham Cathedral. He’s also worked for an art gallery, and in a parish in South Manchester.
Name: Geoffrey Wheeler
Bio: I am a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants.
After a career spent mainly in property and construction I joined the charity sector in 1994 as Finance Officer for Christ’s Hospital (CH). Following a period of over seven years at CH I moved to Aston-Mansfield (A-M) in 2002 in a similar role. This was a very different type of charity to CH, being involved in the provision of community services in east London.
In October 2008, I was appointed General Manager of A-M with the objective to lead the charity forward in the challenging times ahead and consolidate its position as one of the largest charities in London Borough of Newham. I retired from A-M in April 2014.
Over the years I have been a trustee of many charities, mostly London based. I was also a volunteer for Victim Support for twelve years, both locally and at Head Office. On retirement I decided to give up my charitable work in London and concentrate my voluntary efforts locally. I am currently a trustee of Abbeyfield Society Worthing Ltd and WCHP. I also volunteer for Chestnut Tree House.
My interests include gardening, reading, football (Brighton & Hove Albion) and, of primary importance my family. I have three grandchildren under six.
Position: Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee
Name: Matthew Hodson
Bio: Matthew grew up in Worthing and attended local schools before studying for a degree in Mathematics and Geological Sciences at The University of Leeds. He then trained as a Chartered Accountant with Baker Tilly in Yorkshire, qualifying in 1993 and moved back down to Worthing in 1996 to join the family firm of Chartered Accountants. Matthew has been a School Governor and Chair of School Governors for nearly 10 years before stepping down in 2011. He was co-opted to the Board of Trustees on Monday 22 November 2010. Matthew has supported WCHP for a number of years on the Finance Committee, more recently as Chair of the Finance Committee.
Name: Moira James
Bio: I have lived in Sussex for most of my life and for the last twenty years on the foot of the South Downs just outside Worthing. I have been a Housing professional for over 25 years working in both Housing Associations and Local Government. In the nineties I joined Worthing Borough Council’s housing department and then moved onto Worthing Homes working in a number of roles. From 2004 I was the Housing Director responsible for delivering customer services to all our customers who lived in a range of tenures, enabling them to maximise their life chances. I have a passion for housing and working with people in need to develop their potential to improve their own circumstances. Over the years working in Worthing I have seen WCHP grow and develop vital services for homeless people and I am keen to be able to contribute to that work.
I am now working as an independent consultant.
Name: David Standing
Bio: I grew up in Hove studied History and a Geography at Southampton University before qualifying as a social worker in 1974. I worked for East Sussex Social Services for 19 years specialising mainly in work with families and young people. I then became CEO of Hove YMCA extending the work across Sussex and parts of Surrey as YMCA DownsLink Group retiring in 2015. I am on the PCC of Bishop Hannington Church in Hove and enjoy walking local history and family time.
