Local Assistance Network (LAN)

What is the Local Assistance Network?

The Local Assistance Network (LAN) provides short-term, practical aid, such as food or furniture, to people in a crisis. It is provided by West Sussex County Council with supporting organisations delivering the service. The LAN helps people who have no other way of getting assistance. It is open to those who:

  • Are on benefits or a low income
  • Are facing an unforeseen emergency that puts them or their family at risk
  • Need help moving into or remaining in the community
  • Live in West Sussex or are being resettled here

What does the Local Assistance Network offer?

The Local Assistance Network covers a range of basic needs, goods and services:

  • Food from foodbanks
  • Furniture from recycling schemes
  • Reconditioned white goods
  • Personal and household goods and equipment
  • Help with utility costs

LAN does not provide cash or financial assistance.

What to bring with you?

In order to use the Local Assistance Network you will need to provide evidence of who you are and why you need help.
This would be proof of identity, ideally photographic, proof of benefits and an up to date bank statement covering the last month.
